C1 driving license
The objective of the C1 course is that You, as a driver, learn to manage a truck in a safe, economical, and eco-friendly manner.
In order to participate in the course you should have a valid category B driving license.
The minimum age requirement for driving vehicles in categories C1 is 18.
Right to drive class C1 vehicle entitles to drive at the age of 18 years:
- Trucks and other vehicles with a maximum mass of over 3500 kg but not more than 7500 kg and in which there is room for up to eight people plus the driver.
- Combinations of vehicles where the towing vehicle belongs to this class and the total mass of the vehicle being towed is not exceeding 750 kg.
C1 driving license giving access only to driving truck into private use. For professional driving requires specific professional courses for professional drivers.
C-education goal is that you learn to manage and drive a truck in the traffic safe, economical and in a environmentally friendly way, and that you should get an idea of the truck driver profession.

- Combinations of vehicles where the towing vehicle belongs to this class and the total mass of the vehicle being towed is more than 750 kg and traffic tractors with towed vehicles
C-driving license giving access only to driving truck for private use. For professional driving requires specific professional courses for professional drivers.

2. Apply for a driving license permit
A driver's license permit is required for obtaining a driver's license, and it is issued by Traficom.
There are two ways to apply for a driving license permit.
(A) Book an appointment for filling in and submitting an application form at Traficom’s service provider Ajovarma’s office.

You can obtain an application from Ajovarma.
(B) You may apply for a driving license using Traficom’s e-Service, provided that you meet the requirements for using the service. The requirements are that you have a valid Finnish ID card or Finnish passport and your own bank codes. A driving license permit is applied for, depending on the situation, in the First driving license, Upgrading a driving license or Renew your driving license service.
The driving license permit has to be valid before the student can participate in the driving examination (theory- and driving test).
3. Start with theory instruction
All theory instruction is conducted in person.
If needed, all theory lessons can be conducted online
4. Participate in the theory test
The driving school will handle the appointment for the theory test on your behalf, or you can book it yourself at https://www.a-katsastus.fi/en/driving-licences-and-permits/
You will receive a confirmation of your booking via email.
You can take the theory test no earlier than one month before you turn 18 (for category C1) or one month before you turn 21 (for category C).
To take the theory test, you must have attended the mandatory theory instruction.
The theory test is conducted at the Ajovarma office located at Rantamaantie 40A, 65350 Vaasa.

Documents required for the theory test:
- Instruction and Examination Certificate (E100): You will receive this form from your driving school.
- A valid photo ID, such as a passport or an ID card issued by the police.
- Cash or a bank card to pay for the test.
- You can also pay for the theory test in advance through the reservation confirmation.
5. Driving Instruction
Appointments can be made on-site or by phone at 063178174. Cancellations must be made by phone at 063178174 or 0505465021!
For no-show driving lessons, a fee of 50% of the lesson price will be charged. If the phone line is busy, you can leave a text message at 0505465021.
Driving lessons for categories C1/C are conducted at Driving school Rönn in Vaasa.
6. Driving test
The driving test is booked through the driving school.
You will receive a confirmation of your booking via email.
To take the driving test, you must first pass the theory test and complete all required driving lessons.
You can take the driving test no earlier than when you are 18 years old (for category C1) or 21 years old (for category C).
The driving test lasts 60 minutes.
